Mean Mitt: Women & Children Last

As if we needed any more proof that Mitt Romney is bad for American pets, American families. and American jobs, senior Romney Advisor Eric Fehnrstrom makes clear that Romney stands with the extremist, ultra-conservative, GOP Mean Machine and their “women and children last” agenda.

Says Fehnrstrom of boss Mitt “He’s for the Ryan plan. He believes it goes in the right direction. … At least the Paul Ryan plan puts us on a path toward a balanced budget. It gets those annual deficits down, in a way that this president has been unable to do.’

The problem with that?

The Ryan plan will cut taxes on millionaires and billionaires, add trillions to the debt, and cut federal funding for prenatal care, school lunches and health insurance for children, and make huge cuts to food stamps, low-income housingPell Grants and aid to women and children.

What’s more, over the next decade, he would cut more than $700 billion from Medicaid and convert the program into an underfunded block grant to the states.

The Ryan budget provide millionaires with an additional $265,000 in tax breaks, in addition to the $129,000from the Bush tax cuts.

The Bottom Line:

Taxes  go down for the millionaires and billionaires funding Mean Mitt’s campaign and the GOP Mean Machine political operations, and go up for ours and our neighbors families.

Mean Mitt’s Record as Governor: “Severely Conservative”, Dangerous to Pets, Families

Mitt Romney and Richard Whitney

“The Republican contender was the governor of Massachusetts from January 2003 to January 2007. And during that time, according to the U.S. Labor Department, the state ranked 47th in the entire country in jobs growth. Fourth from last.

The only ones that did worse? Ohio, Michigan and Louisiana. In other words, two rustbelt states and another that lost its biggest city to a hurricane.

The Massachusetts jobs growth over that period, a pitiful 0.9%, badly lagged other high-skill, high-wage, knowledge economy states like New York (2.7%), California (4.7%) and North Carolina (7.6%).

The national average: More than 5%.

This was after four years. So far Obama has been in office for just one year. How was Romney’s performance by his first anniversary?

Fiftieth out of fifty.”

“Mitt Romney’s slash and burn money making tactics as a Bain capitalist are the actions of a mean spirited bully who will step on anybody to make a few extra bucks. Romney’s business career was a prelude to his support for the Ryan budget which preserves federal freebies for big businesses and cuts funding for prenatal care, school lunches and health insurance for kids.” Brad Bannon from Politico 5/15/12

It would be easy to dismiss all of this as political silliness were it not for one troubling fact: Sometimes the way a president connects with critters can affect the way voters relate to him.

For all the headaches on the campaign trail, you would not think a candidate would be hounded by his own dog.

That, however, has been the relentless fate of Republican contender Mitt Romney. A trip to Canada 30 years ago with the family pooch in a car top carrier, has been the gift that just keeps giving to Democrats. They’ve lampooned him as cruel at worst, foolish at best, with bumper stickers and T-shirts that say “Dogs aren’t luggage!” and “Mitt is Mean!”

Republicans have counterattacked by pointing out that President Obama wrote in his own book about eating dog as a child, helping the dog fight become a theme at this year’s White House Correspondents Association dinner.

Comedian Jimmy Kimmel nipped at both of them. “If Mitt Romney offers you a ride, call shotgun. And if President Obama starts buttering you, run!”

Brad Bannon on Mother’s Day with Mean Mitt – POLITICO.COM

What a way to celebrate Mother’s Day?

Thursday, the U.S. House of Representatives approved a budget resolution, HR 5652, that shows just how mean, Mitt Romney and his Republican budget buddies are to moms.

The mean-spirited Ryan budget, named after Romney’s budget buddy, Rep. Paul Ryan, would cut federal funding for prenatal care, school lunches and health insurance for children in order to maintain tax breaks for bankers and billionaires. The House budget is just another attempt by Mitt Romney and the GOP Mean Machine to brutalize working families, women and children in particular. It’s not a very nice way for the GOP to honor mothers just before their big day.

The GOP budget also maintains military spending even with wars in Iraq and Afghanistan winding down. The Romney/Ryan budget is a cruel, callous and calculated effort by Republicans to balance the budget on the backs of women and children without cutting corporate welfare for oil companies and defense contractors. If the Romney/Ryan budget was the Titanic, you would hear the cry “of women and children last.”

This budget is Mitt being mean to moms. It would cut taxes for Romney and his fellow millionaires but cut aid to kids. But what else can you expect from a man who put the family dog in a crate on top of his car for a 12 hour ride? Or from a guy who bullied his classmate because he might have been gay?

Nice guy, Mitt.

Mitt Romney’s Empathy Problem

from The New Yorker

If it were just this incident, things might be different. Then we could dismiss it as a youthful indiscretion, just another of the standard outrage-baiting campaign moments we’ll all forget soon enough. But there’s a small string of these kinds of things now. We know that when he’s on the trail, Romney has a real problem connecting with ordinary people—or even just talking to them. We know about Seamus the dog, how Romney put him in a crate and strapped it to the roof of the family station wagon for hours of driving. We know that he’s said he likes being able to fire people.

MAYHEM AGAINST MOTHERS BY GOP MEAN MACHINE

Boston, MA-Today the U.S. House of Representatives approved a budget that shows just how mean Mitt Romney and his Republican budget buddies are.  The Ryan budget, named after Romney’s budget buddy, Representative Paul Ryan cuts spending on food stamps, Medicaid and child tax credits in order to maintain tax breaks for bankers and billionaires. Bob McDevitt, a senior adviser to the superPAC Mitt is Mean said the House budget is just another attempt by Mitt Romney and the GOP Mean Machine to brutalize working families, women and children in particular. It’s not a very nice way for the GOP to honor mothers just before Mother’s Day”.

The GOP budget also maintains military spending even with wars in Iraq and Afghanistan winding down. The GOP Mean Machine Budget not Child Friendly

Top Dem: Republican Budget Will ‘Haunt’ Mitt Romney

Monday night, the House Budget Committee passed a “Sequester Replacement Act,” which would cut roughly $380 billion, mostly from programs like food stamps, child tax credits, and Medicaid, in order to forestall scheduled cuts in defense spending. You will recall that the defense cuts came as a result of the failure of the so called super committee which was supposed to come up with a long-term deficit plan.

Democrats are, correctly, pressing the argument that the GOP budget favors the rich and moneyed interests over the middle class.

“That’s going to be a powerful argument that the president can make—after all Mitt Romney has said that the House Republican budget is—quote—’wonderful,’ and I think that that’s going to come back to haunt him,” Maryland Rep. Chris Van Hollen, the ranking Democrat on the Budget Committee, told reporters Tuesday morning. Van Hollen was very careful how he framed the argument, making sure to talk about it in terms of the middle class rather than the poor—in other words setting it up as an appeal to swing voters rather than something which could inspire ire from them over the freeloading poor.
