Remembering Seamus – Ron Fisher

Republished from the Ashville, NC Citizen-Times

The story about the Romney family dog Seamus and his placement on the roof of their car during a family outing is more than just an amusing tale about a poor dog’s predicament while traveling to Canada with his owners. Actually, it tells us a great deal about how Mr. Romney looks upon the weaker, frailer and “less important.” It shows us very clearly that he treats those he believes are inferior to his closest associates in a manner most would agree is not equal. He has been quoted as stating that the unfortunate dog’s situation was not a big deal. In fact it was his opinion that Seamus enjoyed it. The frightening part of that explanation is that Mr. Romney really believes that. At his core, Mr. Romney feels that by allowing Seamus to come along with him for the trip, even though he was placed in a cage on the roof, the dog should somehow be grateful and appreciative. Seamus shouldn’t expect to be allowed directly in the vehicle with the closer and more important family members. After all, he’s just a dog.

I believe this is how Mr. Romney views his policies on the treatment of others who are not part of his close circle of friends. The poor have their food stamps and housing assistance. The elderly and disabled have their Social Security and Medicare. Women have their husbands. Students have their parents. And Mr. Romney is helping pay for all of this. They should be happy for what they have and should be thanking him. If they’ll just vote for him to be in power so that the wealthy elite can pay fewer taxes and get much richer, he promises to allow for some of that to trickle down. He’ll bring us all along with him on his ride. We just might have to ride on the roof in a cage. What most people don’t realize is how the story about Seamus ends. Seamus ran away at the end of that trip.

Will You Help?

Will you help educate the voters who will win this for President Obama?

Mitt is Mean PAC is the only political organization that has been endorsed by Dogs Against Romney that is legally able to spend money to do voter outreach.

Our mission is to educate the 8 million pet owning undecided swing state swing voters by means of effective advertising and voter contact.

The PR around the Seamus issue has been great, but still hasn’t broken through to non-political junkies.

Most people still haven’t heard about this and won’t unless we run a very targeted campaign to educate them.

We can’t do this with out money, and we have no billionaire backers. We only have you.

Please chip in $3 0r $5 if you can to help get the message out to pet owning swing voters

Election 2012 Will Come Down To Less Than 1 Million Voters

Dukais rode in the tank.

Bush told us to read his lips.

Kerry voted for it before he voted against it.

Romney drove 12 hours with his family pet on the roof of his car.

There is no spin about it, no “tax rates” or “revenue estimates” or “policy differences.”
This is a gut check issue, something everyday people know is just wrong.
Help us get the message out. Remember Seamus.
  • The 8 million pet owning, swing state, swing voters will be the firewall against a Mitt Romney victory.
  • Only a very small fraction know the story of Seamus.
  • We need to raise $1,000,000 to get the message through to these folks

Will your donation make the difference?

We don’t have any millionaire or billionaire backers trying to buy the election – we only have you.

“We can almost guarantee that 48 percent of each state’s voters will go for Obama, and another 48 percent will decide for Romney. And so the whole shootin’ match comes down to around 4 percent of the voters in six states.”

“I did the math so you won’t have to. Four percent of the presidential vote in Virginia, Florida, Ohio, Iowa, New Mexico, and Colorado is 916,643 people. That’s it. The American president will be selected by fewer than half the number of people who paid to get into a Houston Astros home game last year…”

Formed to bring attention to the presumptive Republican presidential candidate’s history of cruelty and nefarious behavior, the Mitt Is Mean Super PAC was launched this spring and has been embraced by pet lovers around the country who find the infamous story of Romney’s treatment of his dog, Seamus, intolerable and unforgettable.

In 1983, the Romney family took a 12-hour drive from their home in Massachusetts to a vacation spot in Canada with their late Irish setter contained in a crate strapped to the roof of the family car. As the story goes, Seamus experienced a bout with diarrhea during the voyage and was subsequently hosed down by Romney at a gas station.

Of the many groups supporting the Mitt Is Mean Super PAC is the online group Dogs Against Romney, whose founder, Scott Crider, offered a ringing endorsement. “Dogs against Romney is a pack, not a PAC” Crider says. “Our members are eager to do more and need a PAC they can support. I decided to get behind Mitt is Mean because the group has been working around the clock to focus attention on Romney’s cruel indifference to people and pets. If he treated his family dog that way how do you think he’ll treat people he doesn’t know.”

Mitt Is Mean will continue to bring attention to the cruelty of Romney, and the GOP Mean Machine’s Corporations Are People agenda throughout the 2012 election cycle by mobilizing the 8 million pet owning swing voters in 10 battleground states. Stay tuned by visiting http://www.mittismean.org.

“What a president believes matters, and Mitt Romney believes in being mean to all things living”

“What a president believes matters. Mitt Romney’s companies were pioneers in outsourcing U.S. jobs to low wage countries. He supports tax breaks for companies that shift jobs overseas. President Obama believes in insourcing. He fought to save the U.S auto industry and favors tax cuts for companies that bring jobs home. Outsourcing versus insourcing. It matters.”

Mitt’s Poor Billionaire Friends Don’t Like Questions….

Big Political Donors Shy Away From Public Scrutiny : NPR

Several dozen wealthy donors have taken advantage of this post-Citizens United world, writing seven-figure checks to political superPACs.

Yet it seems there’s something wealthy donors weren’t counting on when they wrote those checks — attracting attention, including from the political opposition and the media.

“There’s been a ton of so-called electronic media journalists that have lodged all kinds of innuendo in my direction, accused me of all kinds of bad things,” says Frank VanderSloot, who wrote checks totaling $1 million to Restore Our Future, the superPAC supporting GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney.

The money came through his company, Melaleuca, which uses Amway-style marketing to sell cleaning products.

Any superPAC donor who gives more than $200 has to be reported to the Federal Election Commission, and that information is released to the public. That’s how journalists found out about VanderSloot’s donation and began looking into him.

That’s how President Obama’s campaign got VanderSloot’s name, too. On a website called Keeping GOP Honest, the Obama campaign posted a list of big donors to the pro-Romney superPAC, including VanderSloot.

VanderSloot told Fox News he was taken by surprise: “That really worried me at first, I’ll tell you, and my first anticipation was that, ‘Yeah, I’ve got a target strapped on my back.’ And sure enough, then the attacks started coming, and I really thought I’d made a mistake.”

Authors bite at Romney dog tale in new book

Even though he died in the 1990s, and the most famous incident involving him happened nearly three decades ago, satirists are still panting at the chance to chronicle the above-the-car adventures of Seamus the dog.

Now Mitt Romney’s canine companion is getting his own book.

Dog on the Roof!: On the Road With Mitt & the Mutt, by National Public Radio regulars and co-writers Bruce Kluger and David Slavin, is an illustrated tale about the 1983 Romney family road trip that the Republican presidential candidate simply hasn’t been able to put to bed.

As the endlessly repeated story goes, the former Massachusetts governor says he created a special carrier for his Irish Setter, Seamus, and placed it on top of his Chevy for a 650-mile road trip to Ontario.

The not-for-kids rhyming tome, illustrated by Colleen Clapp, is written from Seamus’s rooftop perspective, with the dog declaring early on, “I’m there on the lawn and then suddenly — poof! The next thing I know, I’m a dog on a roof!”

Another Seamus-ism: “Though Jesus (and Moses, and Buddha) may love you, the same can’t be said for the dog up above you!”

Fortunately, the book skimps on the details of when the furry family member became sick at some point during the travels, and the Romneys noticed some foul-looking stuff coming down the sides of their vehicle.

The authors, the scribes behind other satires on former President George W. Bush and ex-Vice President Dick Cheney, dedicated their latest work to New York Times writer Gail Collins, who has penned more than 50 columns on Seamus.
